Faction Rules: Shared Mechanics and Differences
All three WARDOGS factions share the same weapons, vehicles, cash economy and construction systems.
Shared Mechanics Across All Three Factions
The defining rule of WARDOGS factions is that they are mechanically identical. Lonestar, Valkyra and Manticore all access the same weapon shop, the same persistent cash economy, the same vehicles, and the same construction and destruction systems.
This means a player's faction choice does not change which weapons they can buy, which vehicles they can pilot, which fortifications they can build or how they earn cash. The same 37 weapons planned for Early Access, the same 100-player three-team match structure and the same Control Zone scoring rules apply equally to all three teams.
Because the factions share mechanics, the match is decided by player skill, coordination and economy management — not by faction selection. A Lonestar squad and a Valkyra squad with the same loadout, the same cash and the same teamwork are equally capable of winning the Control Zone.
| System | Shared? | Detail |
|---|---|---|
| Weapon shop | Yes | All factions access the same 37 weapons |
| Vehicles | Yes | Same vehicle pool for all teams |
| Cash economy | Yes | Persistent cash across all factions |
| Construction | Yes | Same FOB, sandbag and Hesco systems |
| Destruction | Yes | Same destructible cover rules |
| Unique abilities | No | No faction-specific abilities confirmed |
| Faction balance | No | No mechanical differences confirmed |
What Actually Differs Between Factions
The only gameplay-facing difference between factions is colour. Lonestar is blue, Valkyra is red and Manticore is green, which is how players identify friend and foe inside a three-team Control Zone where two enemy factions are always present.
Beyond colour, the differences are thematic and cosmetic. Each faction has its own lore identity — Texan mercenaries, Soviet restorationists, Persian shadow army — and the Supporter Edition bundles faction-themed weapon camos: a Valkyra A-91, a Lonestar Bushmaster and a Manticore KH-2002.
These camos are cosmetic items, not mechanical perks. They do not change weapon stats or unlock faction-specific gameplay, so a player's faction choice has no effect on their combat effectiveness.
- • Faction colour is the only gameplay-facing difference (blue/red/green)
- • Lore identities differ but do not affect mechanics
- • Supporter Edition includes faction-themed weapon camos (cosmetic only)
- • No faction-specific weapons, vehicles or abilities confirmed
- • Faction choice is currently a thematic and cosmetic decision
Why Factions Are Mechanically Identical
BULKHEAD and Team17 have not announced any mechanical faction differentiation. CyberneticPunks and GameWatcher both explicitly note that the official announcements have not described unique skills, attributes, weapons, vehicles or balance differences between the three factions.
This is a deliberate design choice that keeps the three-team war fair and readable. With no faction perks to balance, players can pick the team they like thematically without worrying about picking a weaker or stronger side, and matches are decided by play rather than by faction meta.
It also keeps the battlefield readable: the only thing a player needs to identify an enemy is their colour, not their faction-specific loadout or ability, which simplifies target identification in chaotic three-way fights.
Could Factions Diverge Later?
Because WARDOGS launches in Steam Early Access on 10 September 2026, the shared-mechanics design reflects the launch state, not necessarily the final state. The developers have not announced faction-specific mechanics, but Early Access roadmaps can introduce new systems over time.
For now, the verified guidance is to treat faction choice as cosmetic and thematic. Players who want a specific team colour or lore identity can pick their preferred faction without any mechanical penalty or advantage.
If faction-specific mechanics are introduced later, this guide will be updated. Until then, all three factions play the same and win on the same terms: presence in the Control Zone, cash management and teamwork.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are there any gameplay differences between WARDOGS factions?
As of verified pre-Early Access information, no. Lonestar, Valkyra and Manticore share the same weapons, vehicles, cash economy, construction and destruction systems. The only gameplay-facing difference is team colour.
Do factions have unique abilities in WARDOGS?
No. Official announcements have not described any faction-specific skills, attributes, weapons, vehicles or balance differences. All three factions play identically.
Does faction choice matter in WARDOGS?
Only thematically and visually. Faction choice determines your team colour and lore identity, but does not affect which weapons, vehicles or abilities you can use.
Will factions get unique mechanics later?
BULKHEAD has not announced any faction-specific mechanics. Because WARDOGS launches in Early Access, future updates could introduce new systems, but for now all three factions are mechanically identical.
