Lonestar vs Valkyra vs Manticore
The three-way faction choice, settled with the sourced numbers. Short version: it is a cosmetic decision, and here is exactly what does and does not change when you pick a team.
Verdict up front: no faction is stronger. Lonestar, Valkyra and Manticore are mechanically identical in WARDOGS. As of the verified pre-Early Access information, no faction-specific weapons, vehicles, abilities or balance differences have been announced — CyberneticPunks and GameWatcher both note that official material describes none. Choose the colour and the lore you want; you give up nothing.
That answer is easy to state and hard to trust without seeing the comparison laid out, so below is every axis the three factions can be compared on, and what the sourced data actually says for each. For the full profiles of each team, see the factions guide.
Side-by-Side: The Whole Comparison in One Table

Everything below the camo row repeats the same value three times, and that repetition is the finding rather than a formatting shortcut. The factions differ on five attributes and match on every system that decides a match.
The Three Things That Actually Differ
1. Colour — the only gameplay-facing difference
Blue, red and green. This sounds trivial until you consider the match structure: up to 100 players are split three ways across roughly 33 per team, and all three converge on the same randomly generated 2×2 km Control Zone inside the 256 km² Kolchia map. Two enemy factions are therefore always present.
Colour is how you tell which of the two enemy teams is pressing you, which matters because a team holding the zone is often pressured from two fronts at once and a team pushing in can be flanked by a third faction it was not watching. No colour is documented as more visible than another in Kolchia's terrain, so this is an identification system rather than an advantage — but it is the one difference you will actually feel in a firefight.
2. Lore identity — why you are fighting
All three want Kolchia and its rare resource PV-1, described as the resource driving Eurasian conflict. What differs is the framing: Lonestar is a Texan mercenary outfit presented as the heavy-hitters of the Western paramilitary world; Valkyra is a Soviet-loyalist force aiming to restore the Soviet People's Republic to greatness; Manticore is the Kingdom of Persia's shadow army operating out of Tehran, a covert regional power rather than a conventional front-line military.
None of this reaches the mechanics. Your faction does not change your objectives, your loadout options or how you score.
3. The Supporter Edition camo — and a detail worth noticing
The Supporter Edition bundles one faction-themed weapon camo per team: a Lonestar Bushmaster M17S, a Valkyra A-91 and a Manticore KH-2002. These are cosmetic and change no stats.
The interesting part is which rifles were chosen. All three are assault rifles, and all three share an identical stat block in beta data: 5.56x45mm, 28 base damage, 700 RPM, 715 m/s muzzle velocity and 1.5 MOA. All three sit in B tier. The cosmetic bundle is therefore as even-handed as the factions themselves — nobody gets a better rifle attached to their team colours.
There is one practical follow-on. Of those three rifles, only the Bushmaster M17S is confirmed free in the shop; the A-91 and KH-2002 appeared in beta with no recorded price. So if you buy the Supporter Edition for a faction camo, the Lonestar Bushmaster is attached to the rifle you can also get for $0, while the Valkyra and Manticore camos sit on rifles that may cost cash. Full stat breakdown in the assault rifle comparison.
What Stays Identical No Matter Which You Pick
- Weapon access. The same 37-weapon launch arsenal, with the same class-level gates — Assault level 10 for the Galil, 20 for the M4, 35 for the FAL — applying to every faction equally.
- Economy. Persistent cash, a $10,000 starting budget, the same payout rules, and death stripping your loadout regardless of team.
- Vehicles and combined arms. The same vehicle pool, including helicopters, armour and artillery.
- Building and demolition. The same FOB, sandbag and Hesco construction, and the same destructible cover rules.
- Win condition. The majority team inside the Control Zone scores every 30 seconds; first faction to 100 points wins.
Because the factions share mechanics, the match is decided by player skill, coordination and economy management. A Lonestar squad and a Valkyra squad with the same loadout, the same cash and the same teamwork are equally capable of holding the zone.
So Which One Should You Pick?
| Pick this | If you want |
|---|---|
| Lonestar (blue) | The Western mercenary identity, blue for friend-or-foe reads, and a camo on the only free rifle of the three |
| Valkyra (red) | The Soviet-restorationist lore and the A-91 camo; red is the most conventional hostile colour in shooters, which some players find easier to react to |
| Manticore (green) | The covert Persian shadow-army framing and the KH-2002 camo |
Only the first column of that table is sourced. The "if you want" entries are preference, not performance — there is no data supporting one faction as easier to play, and any claim that one colour hides better in Kolchia would be invention rather than reporting.
Could This Change After Launch?
Possibly. WARDOGS reaches Steam Early Access on 10 September 2026, so the shared-mechanics design describes the launch state rather than a permanent commitment. Early Access roadmaps can introduce new systems over time, and faction-specific mechanics are an obvious candidate for one.
Until something is announced, the verified guidance is to treat faction choice as cosmetic and thematic. All three teams win on the same terms: presence in the Control Zone, cash management and teamwork. The full sourced breakdown is in the faction rules field report, and match flow is covered in the Control Zone report.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which WARDOGS faction is the best?
None of them, mechanically. Lonestar, Valkyra and Manticore share the same weapon shop, vehicle pool, cash economy, construction and destruction systems, and all players start with $10,000. No faction-specific abilities or balance differences have been confirmed, so pick on colour and lore.
Do factions have different weapons or vehicles?
No. All three factions access the same 37-weapon launch arsenal and the same vehicle pool. The faction-themed weapon camos in the Supporter Edition are cosmetic items and do not change weapon stats or unlock faction-specific gameplay.
Does team colour matter in WARDOGS?
Yes, and it is the one gameplay-facing difference between factions. Lonestar is blue, Valkyra is red and Manticore is green. In a three-team Control Zone fight where two enemy factions are always present, colour is how you identify which team is pressing you.
Is Lonestar, Valkyra or Manticore stronger in the Control Zone?
They are equal. Each fields roughly 33 of the 100 players, the majority team inside the 2×2 km Control Zone scores every 30 seconds, and the first faction to 100 points wins. Matches are decided by presence, cash management and teamwork rather than faction choice.
Will factions ever play differently?
BULKHEAD and Team17 have not announced any mechanical faction differentiation, and both CyberneticPunks and GameWatcher note that official announcements describe none. WARDOGS is out now in Steam Early Access (launched 10 September 2026), so future updates could introduce new systems — but at launch all three play identically.
Why are all three factions fighting?
Control of the fictional Kolchia region and its rare resource PV-1, described as the resource driving Eurasian conflict. Each faction has its own stated motive — Texan mercenary work, restoring the Soviet People's Republic, and Persian regional power projection — but the in-match objective is always the Control Zone.
